“All models are wrong, but some are useful”

I like problems where the answer isn't just sitting in a table and you have to find a signal you can trust. For most of my career, that's meant inventing ways to use digital data to measure the real world: how people move, how places get used, how cities change, and even what people experience and value.

Along the way I've built petabyte-scale geospatial systems, worked with local and international governments on city-scale urban renewal and helped take an urban analytics startup through to acquisition.

At Informed Decisions I lead data science and platform engineering. We're redesigning how our population forecasts are made and building the platforms behind them, so councils and businesses get more accurate forecasts that respond faster to new information.

My goal is to create forecasts that keep pace with the world they describe.
