FORECAST DATA

Population and dwelling forecast data for your own catchment

The self-serve tool at microforecast.id.com.au has been retired. It let partners sign in, draw a catchment and download population and dwelling forecasts for that area.

The data behind it hasn't gone anywhere. Informed Decisions forecasts population and dwellings for every small area in Australia through the National Forecasting Program, and we still produce extracts for catchments of your own choosing. We now do that by request rather than through a sign-in.

Email support@id.com.au with the area you're interested in, and we'll come back to you with what we need to put it together.

HOW TO REQUEST DATA

What to send us, and what happens next

Send your request to support@id.com.au. The more you can tell us up front, the quicker we can work out what's possible.

The area. A map, a list of suburbs or ABS statistical areas, or a point and a radius. Whatever form you already have it in is fine.

What you need from it. Population, dwellings or both, and any breakdown you need by age or household type.

The years. Which forecast years the work actually turns on.

What it is for. The project or the decision it feeds. It tells us whether the forecast answers the question you're asking, and sometimes there's a better way to get at it.

A person will read it and reply with what we need from you to put the extract together.

ALREADY PUBLISHED

Much of it is already published and free to read

Before you ask for an extract, it's worth checking what's already free to read. The forecast analysis pages cover Australia, every state and territory and all 88 regions, each with the forecaster's written account of what's driving the numbers there.

How the forecasts are built, and the development research that sits underneath them, is set out on the National Forecasting Program page.

IF YOU NEED THIS OFTEN

Placemaker, for catchments you draw regularly

A one-off extract suits a one-off question. If you're drawing catchments week to week, Placemaker is the one to look at. It's Informed Decisions' demand planning app: population, dwelling and development forecasts for any catchment you draw, block by block and year by year, with demographic data alongside them.

It's a subscription rather than a download at a time, so it suits regular use. You can book a demo and see whether it fits how you work.

WHAT COMES NEXT

New ways to get at this data are being worked on

Retiring the old tool doesn't mean we've stepped back from this kind of work. We're looking at better ways for consultants, researchers and other partners to get at forecast data themselves. Nothing is settled yet, so we're not putting a date on it.

If that's how you'd rather work, tell us when you email. We'd genuinely like to know what you need, for which areas and how often, and it will shape what we build.

Tell us the area and we will take it from there.
