ABOUT
Tasmania is forecast to add 35,841 people by 2046. Launceston and North East holds the second highest share of Tasmania's SA4s, at 20.5% of this growth.
This region sits in the north-east of Tasmania, where the Kanamaluka/Tamar River meets the city. Launceston is surrounded by some of the state's top attractions, including Cataract Gorge, City Park, the Sports Stadium, and the Queen Victoria Museum and Art Gallery, all close to the city centre.
Launceston is the main city in the region, offering affordable housing, a high quality of life, access to natural environments and employment opportunities in health care, retail and construction.
The SA4 includes several regional and coastal towns, including St Helens, Scamander, George Town, Beauty Point, Beaconsfield, Bridport and Scottsdale, where tourism, agriculture and port-related activities are key drivers of the local economy.

The region is forecast to pass 160,000 residents by 2036, the same point at which Tasmania's population surpasses 610,000. By 2046, the population reaches 162,075, an increase of 7,349 since 2021.
